The numbers are staggering. In the first four months of 2025, Rescue Ranch has taken in over 120 dogs and puppies through the county shelter alone. And they just keep coming! We’re the last chance for each of these dogs, and we’re doing all we can to give them a loving future. That’s our mission, after all. But the truth is that we can’t cope with this influx without help. That’s why we’re seeking rescue partners to support our no-kill mission for homeless dogs.
An unending stream of dogs in need
In recent stories, we’ve discussed the rising numbers of dogs coming our way through our ongoing cooperation with Siskiyou County Animal Control (SCAC). From strays foraging at large, to abandoned and dumped dogs, to hoarding cases, the influx far exceeds the resources and capacity of the county shelter.
That’s where we come in. Our relationship with SCAC is providing a stop-gap for these dogs in need. Without Rescue Ranch, they’d be facing certain euthanasia. Instead, we’re giving them room and care at our Sanctuary while searching for more permanent solutions.
However, the constant demand is taking a toll on our resources and rescue staff. We’re even running out of useable space! We desperately need to find rescue partners to help us move these dogs to other communities so they can find loving homes.
Rescue Ranch offers rescue partners healthy, adoptable dogs
While we realize that our struggles are not unique, one thing that sets Rescue Ranch apart is our rigorous vetting of the dogs in our care. We quarantine all new puppies for 14 days. In a perfect world, new adult dogs would also undergo a 2-week quarantine. While this isn’t always practical under the circumstances, we do everything we can to avoid the risk of infectious disease. Upon intake, all dogs receive their parvo/distemper vaccines and deworming. We also provide wellness checks and rabies vaccines for dogs 4 months and older traveling over state lines.
While they’re with us, dogs are also treated for fleas & ticks and observed for any behavioral issues. Our staff provide rehabilitation and socialization for timid dogs, as well as basic training for older puppies and adults.
What all this means is we offer prospective rescue partners a high degree of confidence that the dogs in our care are healthy and adoptable. In many cases, we can even assist with transport.
