Re-homing Your Dog
Due to limited space and resources, we’re not usually able to accept dogs surrendered by their owners into our shelter. We must prioritize at-risk dogs, including those from municipal shelters in Siskiyou County and beyond.
However, we are glad to help community dogs find new homes. If you need to re-home your pet, please take the following steps:
- Contact Breed-Specific Rescues. If you have a pure-breed dog, these groups often have networks of experienced fosters as well as adopters in search of a specific breed.
- Network on Social Media. Share your pet's best photos along with an honest description of your dog’s personality, likes, and needs. Facebook has many community pages, lost and found pet groups, and local pet networks you can use. Word-of-mouth and online sharing can work wonders!
- Create Flyers. Post flyers at local pet-related businesses such as veterinarians, pet stores, and feed stores. Make sure to include a good photo and your contact information. You’d be surprised how many great adopters come through local connections!
We are happy to share your dog on our website as a courtesy post:
- Please include at least one good photo to help adopters connect with your pet.
- Keep in mind that potential adopters will contact you directly.
- All adult dogs shared on our website must be spay/neutered.
- We ask that you be local to Siskiyou County region or nearby area.

While shelters do everything we can to make our dogs comfortable, it’s important to remember that the shelter environment is crowded, loud, and stressful. Surrendering your pet to a shelter should always be a last resort whenever possible.
If free training is what you need, you are welcome to join us for FREE Sunday socialization classes. All dogs are welcome! Classes are held 10 am -12 pm every Sunday unless otherwise noted. Please call ahead at (530)842-0829.
