Looking for the right furever home for our boy, Bairn 🧡

  • Name: Bairn

  • Age: 8

  • Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound

  • Location: Ashland Oregon US

Meet Bairn (pronounced Bear-n). He’s a healthy, strong, and strikingly handsome Treeing Walker Coonhound we adopted from the Humane Society in early 2022. He’s been part of our family ever since, and this decision is truly heartbreaking—but it’s what’s best for our family’s safety and for Bairn’s long-term wellbeing.

Bairn is a friendly, intelligent, and playful companion who thrives with regular structure, exercise, and clear communication. He loves to hike, run, run alongside you while you bike, and sniff his way through the valley and mountains. He is happiest when he’s outside exploring or working with his person.

🌲 Bairn’s strengths:
+ Excellent off-leash recall using a chargeable e-collar
+ Highly trained with support from two professional trainers (most recently Jackson Seiloff of Running Wild Dogs in Ashland)
+ Gets handfuls of compliments from other dog owners on walks due to his listening skills, voice recall, friendliness, and because he’s such a handsome guy!
+ Loves trail, biking, and mountain adventures—he’ll run with you and stick close
+ Very responsive to commands, especially “leave it”
+ House-trained and crate-comfortable
+ Gets along with other dogs and does well in dog parks or with a dog pack
+ Up to date on shots, neutered, and comes with full vet records, AKC tracking info, e-collar, and all his dog gear. Will need his 2025 county dog license renewed.

🧡 Where Bairn needs support:
Over the past 1.5 years, Bairn has spent most of his time outdoors/our garage and has had limited access indoors due to safety concerns with my husband and now our toddler. We’ve consulted with our trainer about this, and we believe Bairn may be guarding food and/or me as his person. With a toddler in the home and the unpredictability of my mom schedule (to care for him on a consistent schedule) + this behavior, we can no longer safely manage it.

Because of this, Bairn needs a specific kind of home:
* Adult-only household (no small kids)
* Experienced with Coonhounds, working dogs, or resource guarding
* Ideally an active single person or an active couple
* Fenced yard and access to nature
* Daily outdoor exercise (2 walks/hikes/bike rides/runs/playtime)
* Someone who appreciates a good bay and an eager-to-please trail partner who is also a strong, confident personality

We’re looking for the right fit. Bairn has so much love and vibrancy to give to the right person who can give him the time, structure, and outdoor exercise/adventures he craves.
