Whatever you hear, there is no such breed. But if you look back far enough to the first century AD, you’ll find the ancestor of today’s Rottweilers crossing the Alps with the Roman legions as they made their way into southern Germany. Probably bred from an Asian molossus, the dogs were used as drovers by the invaders. Some were left behind when the Romans were driven out. They were later named after the town of Rottweil.
