Cata-what now? Catahoula!

August 27, 2025 by

Although it comes in various coats, the catahoula leopard dog is typically associated with a spotted merle coat and colorful eyes. Beautiful in all colors, it was bred to hunt wild hogs in Lousiana. Another feature is the breed’s characteristic webbed toes. Webbing is not unusual in dogs, but in the catahoula it’s particularly pronounced. No doubt useful for running down hogs in swampy ground! Although unique and striking, the catahoula is not an AKC recognized breed.
