What is RRAAP?
Rescue Ranch created RRAAP to help community dog owners overcome the barriers preventing them from spaying or neutering their dogs. Click here to learn why spay/neuter is the right thing to do.
Top 3 Barriers to Spay/Neuter
- Access: Even if cost is not an issue, in rural communities like Yreka, veterinary resources are limited. Patients can wait months for an appointment and choosing an alternative location isn't available to everyone. Travel can take 45 minutes, or more, each way. If the dog stays overnight that's two round trips. Work schedules and other reasons might make it difficult for a pet owner to travel.
- Cost: Normally, surgery can cost up to $600 or more. Cost is based on the procedure as well as the size and health of the pet. Spaying is usually more expensive than neutering. Low-cost programs typically cost less than $250, even for spaying (rough estimate only, costs fluctuate over time and individual cases may vary).
- Transportation: The high cost of gas is only one obstacle to transportation. Not everyone has access to a vehicle or is able to drive. Age, health, mobility, work, and other factors, affect transportation and prevent many responsible dog owners from spaying or neutering their pet.
Through RRAAP, Rescue Ranch overcomes all of these challenges by obtaining appointments at reasonable rates and offering free transportation to and from the vet. Pet owners are responsible for vet costs. If cost is still an issue, Rescue Ranch will do its best to work with you.

Donate To RRAAP
RRAAP relies exclusively on donations to operate. Pet owners are responsible for covering vet costs, but Rescue Ranch doesn't charge anything for transport or the administration of the program. When possible, we also work with pet owners who may need to make alternative payment arrangements.
