Meet Ella

Miss Ella is our resident certified goof-ball! This adorable pittie blend stands out in a crowd. She came to us last spring in need of life-saving veterinary care. The folks who surrendered her said she was a pit bull/coyote blend. Without a DNA test, it’s impossible to know for sure what her genetic background is. Whatever it is, she is definitely differently-abled. As she recovered, first in foster and then here at the Ranch, it became more and more clear that Ella doesn’t process information the way most dogs do. After one adoption that didn’t work out for her unique needs, Ella is again looking for that perfect fit for her quirky, loveable personality.

Ella is extremely affectionate and loyal with people she knows and trusts, but  she’s slow to warm to strangers. We think she might do best in an adult-only household without a lot of visitors. She definitely seems to prefer women over men. She’s the kind of dog that wants to stick to you like glue, but she’s also curious about the world. She’s still young and has lots of puppy energy. She’ll need plenty of daily exercise as well as a secure yard to play in.

Ella has had some training and knows how to walk on leash, but still needs lots of practice. It takes her longer to pick up new skills than your average dog, and she can be quite determined and very uncertain in new situations. She’ll need an adopter who has the time and patience to help her practice the basics, preferably with lots of positive reinforcement. Clicker training or other reward-based methods might work well for her. Ella can do well with some dogs but tends to be dominating. We do not recommend her to homes with small dogs or chase-able animals.

If you feel like Ella is the dog for you, come on down to the Ranch to meet her today!

Walk-ins are welcome, but please check our hours before coming to visit. If you’re coming from a long way to meet a specific dog, we encourage you to call us first to be sure they’re available and on site when you visit. Phone: (530) 842-0829.
