Meet Boris

Boris, Rescue Ranch Dog of the Week

If you’re looking for a dog who will be both guardian and loyal companion, Boris may be just the ticket! This gorgeous boy is looking for someone who will value his intelligence and strong protective instinct. Boris isn’t new to rescue. He was adopted from a shelter by a very loving family, then surrendered to the ranch because he wasn’t suited to apartment living. But in the right environment, Boris will shine.

Boris has so many wonderful qualities! For starters, he’s safe with cats. He completely ignores them. Also, he has already had extensive training and knows many formal commands, including “Sit,” “Stay,” “Down,” and “Come,” as well as  “Leave it,” “Wait,” and “Let go.” He is food motivated and eager to please, so training him is straightforward.

Boris loves to play outdoors and in water. He especially enjoys fetch. He’s a powerful dog, though,  and pulls a bit on leash. For this reason, he’ll need an adopter who can physically restrain him when necessary. He’s highly athletic and would be a great running companion.

Boris is an affectionate boy with his people, but more reserved with new friends. He can be slow to warm to people, but once he does he’s deeply loyal. Boris may need to be the only dog in his home, as he is dog reactive. We have had success introducing him to other calm dogs, but we recommend caution due to his history of dog reactivity. We suspect he just didn’t receive enough socialization as a puppy and may not know how to interact appropriately with other dogs. As such, we feel he would do best in a loving home with a large, securely fenced yard, where he can get plenty of exercise while staying out of trouble.

Altogether, this is an incredible dog. Due to his strength and temperament, we recommend him to experienced dog handlers. Does he sound like the boy for you? Then call us at (530) 842-0829 and make an appointment to meet Boris today!
