Vaccination Protects Your Pet and Other Dogs

Please keep your dog's vaccinations up-to-date. When you vaccinate, you keep your dog safe and healthy in boarding, social, and emergency situations where your pet will come into contact with other animals.

Diseases like parvovirus and distemper are highly contagious and deadly.  Puppies and young dogs are particularly susceptible, so it is critical to vaccinate them as soon as they're old enough. Typically, puppies receive their first shots  at six weeks old, then at 12 and 16 weeks.

Puppies may be more vulnerable but both viruses are life-threatening for dogs of all ages, including young healthy adults. Even in mild cases, the affected dog will shed the virus and put others at risk.

Even if your pet doesn't interact with unknown dogs on a daily basis, they will  come into contact with dogs you don't know or  see infrequently. Your dog will inevitably come into contact with other dogs during travel, emergencies, visits with friends and extended family, when they are boarding, or in other social situations.  You can't rely on the others being vaccinated or healthy.

Another important vaccine is bordetella, which protects your dog against kennel cough. Kennel cough is not always severe, but it can be. Most boarding facilities require a vaccine to protect against kennel cough.

Of course, we highly recommend vaccinating your dog against rabies. Not only does it protect your dog, it is required by law. Only a veterinarian can administer the rabies vaccine.

Low-Cost Vaccinations Available at Rescue Ranch

Rescue Ranch offers low-cost parvo-distemper and Bordetella vaccinations to the public.

  • Parvo-distemper (5-way) $15
  • Bordetella $15

We highly recommend you call us before coming in for vaccinations, sometimes there's a lot of demand and stocks run low. When that happens, we reorder of course, but we wouldn't want you to have to make the trip twice.  Call the ranch for more information and to check on availability: 530-842-0829
