Rescue Ranch became the Designated Dog Evacuation Center for Syskiyou County in 2020 during the Slater Fire. At that time, we took in an extra 40 dogs, and many other animals as well. The cats and other animals were moved as soon as it could be arranged, but an extra 40 dogs was a record at the time. In 2021, the number of fire dogs shot up to 214 during the Lava Fire. Then. last year’s McKinney and Mill Fires brought in 169 and 91 dogs respectively within weeks of each other, that’s a total of 260 extra dogs!
