Sparky is the beautiful ultimate companion for an outdoor human who loves adventures, long hikes, rolling in the snow, and chilling by the fire. We adopted Sparky as a rescue when he was about 1 year old and have had him for about 2.5 years. We learned that while physically he is a near perfect specimen, he experienced trauma or abuse in his prior setting. He is highly obedient, loving, and loyal with the adult humans in his pack, and he can eventually warm-up to other patient, understanding, dog-loving humans. But he is wary of children and he’s often shy with other dogs. Once he’s off-leash he will run in huge circles of joy around you ! He’s not a cat-lover & we haven’t experienced him around livestock.
Sparky chills easily with the humans in his pack, immediately rolling over for a belly rub with his big, long legs begging for more. But he is also protective and reactive. He’s about 60 pounds of mostly muscle. To the unfamiliar or not-dog-loving humans he can be intimidating. We are needing to rehome him because our family living situation has dramatically changed and despite some very good professional training, we’ve been needing to keep him on a “short leash” when kids are in the house. In addition our work situation has changed, and we’ve had to start boarding him regularly several times a week. We love and adore Sparky, and we recognize our situation is adding to his stress, and is neither sustainable nor fair to Sparky or our family.
