Born with hip dysplasia, the Labrador puppy was probably dumped because of his “defect.” When Mary Flood rescued the 10-month-old stray, he had a broken leg. That’s when his luck turned. She not only saved him but recognized his suitability for search & rescue. He a long and storied career. He spent 17 days searching the dangerous rubble of 9/11’s Ground Zero and rescued many survivors after Hurricane Katrina. Later, he volunteered with burned children and visited senior homes. He died in Utah when he was 12.
