Two Bit

Tow it, Rescue Ranch Dog of the Week

Meet Two Bit,

Some dogs want to be at the center of one special person’s world. We think Two Bit is that kind of dog. This striking two year old basenji/terrier mix is longing for a home where he can get all the attention he deserves.

You may have heard that basenji dogs don’t bark. Well, we don’t know exactly how much basenji DNA Two Bit has in him, but we can tell you that he’s quite a vocal fellow, especially when he feels neglected. He barks, whines, whimpers, even howls for companionship. Two Bit just needs a doting, patient human who’ll give him a loving home and lots of activity. He’s definitely not the silent, stoic type.

At 35 pounds, Two Bit is unlikely to be too much dog for most people. He’s an alert, intelligent boy who, occasionally, shows herding tendencies.  He would enjoy having a big backyard, as well as going on long walks and trips to the park.  With his quickness and active personality, he’d probably make a excellent agility dog.

He already knows how to “Sit” for treats and walk on leash. He does like to pull and could use a refresher on paying attention to his handler. The good news is that he’s food motivated, which should make him fairly easy to train.

Two Bit can be a little independent and aloof. On the other hand, he also loves attention and will climb in your lap to get it. Once he warms to people, he really shows his sociable, affectionate nature.

He’s tolerant of other dogs but doesn’t always have the best manners. It seems likely that he wasn’t well socialized as a puppy. He might do well with the right dog companion. We don’t know his history with cats but recommend caution around felines.
