Meet Gem

Gem1

Gem hails from Tulare County where she was picked up as a stray. She’s still quite young, and, although we don’t know her history, it’s clear she’s experienced rough handling in the past. This deeply loving dog has a steadfast heart and an incredible ability to devote herself to a human being. She is looking for a gentle family who will keep her busy and help her build some confidence in herself.

Gem was recently returned to the Ranch as she just had too much youthful energy for her adopters. She is really still a puppy in an adult dog’s body and can be enthusiastically bouncy. Above all else, she needs room to run! Gem LOVES to run, and if not given enough freedom, she will escape the yard in order to stretch her legs. She doesn’t want to run away, she just wants to move! A very large, securely-fenced yard or ranch would be best for this lively, joyful girl.

As long as she gets plenty of exercise, Gem is obedient inside the home. She is fully house trained and not destructive. She is fairly polite on the leash, too, though she can be a bit of a puller, and she already knows how to “Sit” and “Stay.” Gem needs a supportive environment where she can learn to contain some of her boundless enthusiasm. She is a bit shy and slow to warm up to new people, but once she knows she can trust someone, she is affectionate and very loyal. She tends to bond strongly with her primary caretaker and can become overly protective.

With the proper introductions, Gem would probably do well with another dog, but we don’t know her history with cats.

What do you think? Does Gem sound like your kind of girl? Then come on down to the Ranch to meet her today!
