It's Happening Again!

The Mill Fire in Weed, has caused devastation in populated areas, burning through neighborhoods and bringing many evacuated dogs to Rescue Ranch once again.

Unbelievably, just weeks after the McKinney Fire brought 169 dogs to our doors, the Mill Fire broke out on Friday September 2. Rescue Ranch took in 71 dogs in six hours on that very day. By noon on Sunday, our total intake number stood at 90 dogs.

As the Designated Dog Evacuation Center for the county, we do everything we can to help as many evacuees as possible. We even take in cats, birds, and other animals, when the situation warrants it and until better accomodations can be found for them.

Every fire is unpredictable. We must be ready for anything. We still don't know how many strays, displaced, and/or injured animals will be coming our way once rescue and recover efforts begin in earnest.

• Some dogs will end up staying with is for extended periods of time. Most of those will be evacuees whose famlies have lost everything and need time to regroup.
• In some cases, as during the Lava Fire, dogs might need emergency medical treatment and their recovery is slow.
• Others won't be injured, but they'll go unclaimed and stay with us until they find loving, forever homes.
• Still others will be pregnant moms, moms with pups, or puppies alone. Some of tese might require medical attention or require need round-the-clock care.
